Luke Eberl, age 21, began his filmmaking career in 1997 after his first film acting job at the age of 10. Shortly thereafter he began making documentaries for the local TV station, and won the Best of Boulder Freedom of Speech Award in 1998 (at age eleven) for his “Banned Books,” and the Best of Boulder Reflecting Diversity Award in 1999 for his television series about Boulder youth, “In the Mood.” The same series won him the national Hometown Video Festival Award for Best Youth Video in 1999. He then wrote and directed “Incest,” which won the Audience Choice Award at the international First Look Student Film Festival, and stars Erick Avari, Hallee Hirsh, and John Partick Amedori. For all of these awards, he was in competition with adults.
In 2002 he produced and starred in “Searching for Haizmann” with Tippi Hedren, Clint Howard, and Stephen Furst, which is now available on DVD. His next short film, “Fellowship,” the cast of which includes Chris Marquette, Margo Harshman, and Evan Parke, premiered at the Lima International Film Festival. Recently he has finished directing his feature film debut, the political drama “Choose Connor,” starring Steven Weber, Alex Linz, Escher Holloway, John Rubinstein, April Grace, and Richard Riehle.
His film acting credits include a lead role in Tim Burton’s “Planet of the Apes,” with Mark Wahlberg, Tim Roth, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Clarke Duncan, Paul Giamatti, Kris Kristofferson, and Erick Avari; “Phantoms,” with Ben Affleck and Peter O’Toole; and “Lost in the Pershing Point Hotel,” with John Ritter; the CBS/Hallmark Hall of Fame film “A Painted House,” based on John Grisham’s book, with Scott Glenn, Robert Sean Leonard, and Melinda Dillon, directed by Alfonso Arau; “Landslide” with Vincent Spano, Alexandra Paul, and Robert Pine, and, most recently, a supporting role in Clint Eastwood’s Academy-award winning “Letters From Iwo Jima” with Ken Watanabe.
He won the award for “Best Actor in a Short Film” at the prestigious Method Fest for his performance in Aaron Himelstein’s “Sugar Mountain”
Luke has also had guest starring roles on “Cold Case,” “Judging Amy,” “Boston Public,” “Touched by an Angel,” “ER,” and “Big Love.” He has also performed at the Denver Center Theatre Company, the Arvada Center for the Arts, Boulder’s Dinner Theatre, and numerous other theaters.
